About Malora
In 2001, I began teaching piano during my sophomore year of high school to students in Southern Illinois. By the end of my senior year, I was teaching 20-25 students per week. Then, I went to the University of Evansville to pursue a degree in Music Education. I have continued teaching piano students on a part-time basis since being a music teacher in Evansville, Indiana.
I enjoy teaching all types of music from classical to jazz, popular, gospel, blues and more. I believe the basics are key, but it's also important to find those special songs or types of music that "speaks" to the student. It helps when they can have some emotional attachment to songs along with the basics of learning how to play the piano. It's fun to see how excited a student can be when they love playing a special piece.
MY STORY
My mother played percussion, and when she was little her mom and dad saved up and bought a piano. The piano did not find much use, but she did develop a love for percussion. My parents then had a daughter(me) that began taking piano lessons at age 5. My piano teachers were sisters, and people that my great-grandmother baby-sat while they were growing up. Through them, I had great mentors and teachers until college that remain close family friends.
In elementary, junior high, high school and college, I also played saxophone. The band and music program were where I developed some of my closest friendships. Growing up, I personally experienced losing music teachers in schools due to budget cuts- but my parents strongly believed in the importance of music education and pushed private music lessons. For this reason, I am grateful for piano lessons and my parents' belief in music education.
When choosing colleges I looked for a piano teacher. For me, it was the University of Evansville's piano teacher that won me over- Mrs. Fiedler. To this day, I admire her talent and dedication to her students. It is because of the piano teachers that I have had and my relationships that I still have with them that I hope to encourage students to meet their musical aspirations.
I graduated with honors from the University of Evansville in 2008 with a degree in Music Education and began teaching music in Evansville's Diocese. In 2014, I started my Master's and completed it in 2016 with a degree in Music Education, and a final project based on Music and Technology. I am certified to teach PK-12 General, Instrumental, and Vocal Music.
As of 2020, I have been teaching private piano lessons since 2001 and teaching music in Evansville since 2008. I am currently available for "General Music" online classes and piano lessons. Other instrumental and vocal lesson requests will be considered for beginners, but would eventually be referred to other teachers that are musically and technically proficient in the specified area.
